Smoother Skin Around the Eyes

February 26th, 2013 • Posted by Email Marketing • Permalink

The eyes are the focal point of the face and it is no wonder that there are various ways to adorn them.  We want others to look into our eyes and tap into the beauty within.  Taking care of the delicate skin around the eyes yields a healthier appearance and younger look.  This may be an area that is overlooked by many, but requires special care and attention.

The skin around the eyes is ten times thinner than the rest of the face. As we age this skin becomes even thinner due to the breakdown of collagen. The elasticity of the skin decreases and produces fine lines in the area. This can be further aggravated by sun exposure, smoking, and other environmental exposures. The skin of the eye contour is constantly moving and blinking alone produces 10,000 movements per day!

With proper care, many common symptoms can be avoided. Caring for the skin around the eyes is a delicate process. Because it is thinner, it not only tends to be the first place to show signs of aging, but also is more sensitive than the rest of the skin. It is important to use a cream that is specific to the eye area so that elasticity and moisture can be addressed.

Ask our facialist which eyecream is best for your skin type so that you will be well on your way to the proper care of this delicate area.

Styles that Add a Touch of Romance

February 8th, 2013 • Posted by Email Marketing • Permalink

Most women have a love/hate relationship with their hair. Okay, truth be told, it's mostly a "please be nice to me today" relationship.

Did you know that a survey conducted by Tressemme revealed that the average woman spends $50,000 on her hair over the course of her lifetime? That's a lot of love! Oh, and this is fun: 54 percent of women surveyed claim that they got madder at their hair sometime during the previous month than they did at their man.

Whether or not you're romancing a partner as you move toward Valentine's Day, there's a good chance you'll be wooing your hair. We've put a few ideas together so that you can enjoy the day while looking your very best.

Short Hair:

Sleek. There's a retro feel to a short style that's been put in its place by soothing cream. Allow the tiny fringes to frame your face.

Tousled. Show the world that you're a free spirit by messing it up and wearing it wild. Add a little clay for volume.

Curly. Nothing about short hair prevents you from creating whimsical curls. If you have naturally curly hair, rock it. If you need a little help, use a tiny ¼ inch barreled curling iron to make soft curls all over.

Accessorized. Here's the deal with short hair: people don't expect you to you to play it up with accessories. Really, there's something very bold about "fancifying" your short hair with a quirky headband or unusual hairpin. If you haven't taken a look at hair accessories in a while, now is the time to do so. There is an amazing array out there - from sleek and sophisticated to straight-up funky.

Medium Length:

Side-Swept. If you have bangs, sweep them gently to the side. There are few things flirtier than playing peek-a-boo with one eye.

Soft Updo. Gather your hair into a loose bun and accessorize with a lovely hair pin.
Half Updo. Gently pile your hair behind your head, leaving softly curled tendrils to fall around your face.

Sleek and Shiny. Straight iron your hair board-straight and add a dab of oil for shine.

Preppy. If you're in the mood to flash your inner prep, curl the ends of your hair up and slap on a headband.

Long:

Curls, Curls, and More Curls: Whether they're natural or you have to create them with hot curlers and a curling iron, there are few looks sexier than long, soft curls. Make sure to freeze them into place with a high quality hair spray.

Twists. Yes, it's as easy as it sounds. Twist the side sections of your hair into loose twists and pull them together at the back of your head. An ornate barrette will dress the look up.

Swirl. Wear your long hair straight, but curl the bottom two inches. It's fast, easy, and sexy.

Flower Power. Romance and flowers go together like Romeo and Juliet. Really, it's a proven fact. Attach fresh daisies to a headband and wear it with attitude. In fact, if you can float on air, that would be a nice touch.

Valentine's Day Home Beauty Remedies

February 2nd, 2013 • Posted by Email Marketing • Permalink

This Valentine's Day, celebrate your natural beauty. You don't need fancy products with tons of chemicals to have great skin and hair. In fact, many treatments from spas and salons are rooted in home remedies. Let your natural beauty shine through with these back-to-basic treatments.

Exfoliate naturally with grapes.
Thanks to the fruit acids and high levels of vitamin C, grapes fight free-radical damage and make great, natural exfoliators.  Grapes also contain salicylic acid and polyphenols, which are found in expensive moisturizers.

  • Simply crush some red or purple grapes (because they have more resveratrol), and rub them all over your face.
  • After 30 to 60 seconds of scrubbing, rinse skin with warm water and pat dry to reveal your radiant complexion.

Tone skin with apple cider vinegar tonic.
The acidity of apple cider vinegar not only helps restore your skin to its natural pH balance, allowing skin to sit at that ideal stage between dry and oily, but it also prevents blemishes, reduces red marks and softens skin. The tonic works best when used after cleansing, and the smell will dissipate after a few minutes. If you have sensitive skin, you may need to further dilute the solution.

  • To begin, chop a handful of parsley, a skin-clarifying herb, and feel free to chop any of your other favorite herbs for extra nutrients.
  • Add a cup of water to the saucepan and bring to a boil, before adding your herbs. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Strain the mixture through a mesh sieve to remove the herbs from the water.
  • Add a half a cup of apple cider vinegar to water and transfer mixture into a spray bottle.
  • Optional: Add a few drops of tea tree oil, an antiseptic that encourages healing and prevents infection.
  • Shake well before using and store in the fridge.

Pump up the volume with beer.
Surprisingly enough, if you want luscious locks, try washing your hair with some beer. The proteins found in beer help repair hair due to sun damage, chemical processing, chlorine and pollution. The yeast and hops pump up the volume as they plump up the hair cuticles and swell the hair shaft. The sugars in the beer tighten the hair cuticles, making hair look nice and shiny, while the acidity of the beer helps remove product buildup.

  • After you've shampooed your locks, pour a bottle of lukewarm, dark beer over your hair.
  • Gently massage the beer into your hair and let it soak in for at least two minutes, before rinsing with cool water.
  • Follow up with your favorite conditioner, which will help neutralize the smell of beer.

There's no need to run out to the store and shell out wads of cash to look beautiful this holiday. Most of these ingredients you probably have in your fridge or pantry. However you decide to celebrate Valentine's Day, why not flaunt your natural beauty with these home remedies?
